Eyes to See...

I read somewhere that we only see about 4% of what is in front of us. That is a crazy number when you consider that we do not see the other 96%. When I heard this I started to ponder that statistic, wondering, "Can it be true?". I mean, that's crazy, right? I started to pay more attention to things. I have always been pretty good at paying attention but I wanted to be more intentional than normal. Our brain isn't just looking, its predicting... We can stare right at something & still not see it. Seeing is not just about what reaches the eye, it is also about what the brain expects to find.

There are signs on highways cautioning drivers to look out for motorcycles, because we just do not see them. And car crashes because we do not see the other cars around us. How often do we miss our exit because we do not see it, even though we are looking for it? We are looking for something that we probably look at multiple times but we cannot see it, therefore cannot find it. I know my husband asks where something is located, & while I give him an exact location with details & everything, most of the time he cannot see it. His sight is not the problem but rather his brain is likely processing all of the details rather than the object itself.

Our vision is highly restricted. We think we can see all kinds of things but never really truly experience sight the way it was intended. If one's only argument against God & the spirit realm is that they cannot see it, they do not have much of a case. We do not even see what we look for, but rather what our mind is expecting to find. This natural world is highly deceptive. Everything around us is meant to confuse, control, & distract. We see & believe only what we either want to see & believe, or what we have been taught to see & believe; one reason I talk so much about questioning everything you believe & finding out the truth behind it. I spent 3 years after truly giving my life to Christ questioning everything. And it was hard on my family at times. I do not want to 'see' something a certain way simply because that is what I was taught. I want to 'see' the truth - to see Jesus Christ.

The only truth is the Lord Jesus Christ. Everything else is opinion or lies. We can only find Him if we search for Him. Jesus says in Matthew 7:7 to seek & you will find. I can see the spiritual in everything, as well as the natural. Spending time with the Truth will prepare our sight. And just as our natural sight sharpens more & more as babies, so does our spiritual sight. We eventually find everything we search for. What are you searching for? We are all searching for something all the time. What do you see?
