If you do not agree with me, that's ok! I am not mad at you! But lets take this journey together, lets seek Jesus and the Holy Spirit for the answers. I am only offering the truth of Scripture, always seek that for yourself and never take my word for anything, nor anyone else's word. Jesus is the only One who is flawless and does not make mistakes! I do not seek to mislead anyone at any time, I just want to share how to have abundant life in Christ!
I do believe a Christian can have demons. I am a trained deliverance minister and I've seen a few things. Demons are loud and theatrical because they have no real power. Sound familiar? Lots of things going on in the world to mimic this statement. In Scripture, Jesus cast demons out of only believers; those who had faith in Him to do such things. We see verbiage that alludes to the way those people got the demons.
Luke 13:10-17 tells the story of a woman who had an ailment that caused her to be bent over for 18 years. She probably just accepted her fate and got used to her ailment, was in agreement with it even. Then came along Jesus! Her illness was caused by a spirit of infirmity, a demon. Jesus called her a daughter of Abraham and she was in the synagogue, both of which suggest she was a God-fearing believer. Jesus said that satan had bound her - something had been done to her to cause the affliction.
In Mark 5:9 a man was possessed by many demons, even calling himself Legion, for they were many. A legion would be called they/them for those who care so deeply about pronouns. Anyway, this man ran up to Jesus and bowed before him, paying Him respect. The demons inside of the man knew Jesus and knew to worship Him - that upon His name, every knee will bow. Did the man recognize Jesus and believe he would be set free from this bondage? Maybe. Jesus cast the demons into the pigs that were grazing nearby, about 2000 of them, and they were drowned in the sea. 2000 pigs equals 2000 demons that were afflicting this man.
And we really do not want to believe that children can be afflicted by demons but Scripture talks about that one too; Jesus deals with demons in kids. In Mark 9:14-29, Jesus heals a boy that was possessed by a demon that the disciples could not cast out. This spirit caused the boy to seize and threw him down, also causing him to be unable to speak. The boys father told Jesus it had been happening since childhood. The demons were trying to kill him. Jesus told the demon to leave and never come back. The man had faith in Jesus and his ability to free his son. He asked the Lord to help his unbelief, but he had faith, none the less.
Jesus was teaching in the synagogue in Mark 1 when a man, in the synagogue, with an unclean spirit cried out. The spirit said, "What business do You have with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to torture us before the time? I know who You are - the Holy One of God!" Jesus told that demon to shut it and leave, and it did!
And every time the Pharisees saw the good things Jesus did, they were angry. They chose not to see the Messiah that was standing in their midst because He did not look the way they thought He should look. We are all guilty of that, thinking God should do things one way and when He doesn't we decide it isn't of God. I am learning more and more that God does not think like I do or do things the way I think He should! That's good news for all of us!
In Ezekiel 8, God took Ezekiel by the hair of the head and placed him in the Temple. The Temple, like man, was a 3 part system - the outer court (the body), the inner court (the soul realm), and the Holy of Holies (the spirit realm where our spirit resides with Him). God wanted Ezekiel to see the lude & heinous acts that were being done inside the Temple. Then God told him to dig in the wall and he would see worse things. He saw every kind of creeping thing and beasts and loathsome things, and all the idols of the house of Israel carved on the walls. Even the elders of the house of Israel, who were supposed to be the most holy, were committing abominations! "You will see even greater repulsive acts they are committing," said God. There were women weeping for a false god, Tammuz, there were men worshipping the sun, they had filled the land with violence. There were likely such atrocities that Ezekiel couldn't even comprehend.
Our body, the home for the soul, can be demonized. Demons can and do live in the body. They can also inhabit the soul, which is the mind, will, and emotions. Our body and soul can be hijacked by demons. They were once alive as they are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim, the giants, the offspring of Fallen Angels (watchers) and humans. They want a body, and yours will do just fine for them. They all have a nature and they can make you think their will is your will, that the way they think is the way you think, that you believe what and how they believe. They cannot reside in the spirit realm because that sits with Christ in heavenly places if you belong to Him and your soul is alive. If you do not belong to Jesus, your soul is not alive and can be possessed by satan. Just because your spirit is not alive does not mean it does not exist. We tend to believe lies because satan and his beings are liars. We come into agreement with dudes called anger, depression, anxiety, apathy, poverty, suicide, rebellion, pride, ego, insecurity, mind-control spirits, anti-christ spirits, Pharisee-ical spirits, the list goes on. I've only seen a small amount of demons compared to the number of them there are. But like I said, they have no real power only what we give them. And denying we can even have them because I'm a Christian gives them loads of power; talk about arrogance, ego, and pride! I'll write about about my testimony from death to life in Christ in the near future but if you are curious you can find it in my book, Back to Basics on Amazon. The link is under the Back to Basics tab.
This subject about the demonic is so taboo and when we talk about it, people, pastors, church persons look at you like you have 3 heads. We have stopped calling out satan, stopped fighting this war, and talk only about palatable things, comfortable things, warm and fuzzy things. The power has been stripped because people are sitting back saying, "These bad things must be God's will..." That's such a cowards way. They don't ever have to take responsibility or use any kind of authority, offend anyone, feel left out or rejected when they take this approach. And the enemy knows that we want to be liked, included, and accepted. These things do not set people free. Jesus cast out demons, talked about satan, called him out, offended all the time. Shouldn't we be emulating Christ? He said that those who believe will do greater things that even He did while on this earth (John 14:12). He also said in Mark 16:17 that these signs shall accompany those who believe. In my name they will cast out demons, speak in new tongues, pick up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them, they will lay hands on the sick and they will get well.
Its not a matter of whether or not Jesus CAN do something - its what we have faith for Him to do for us. What do you want Jesus to do for you? Do you believe He can do it?
